"Let the Children Come to Me"
Matthew 14: 19
St. James Lutheran offers a Sunday School experience to children ages 3 to Grade 5. Because of our regular offerings, we are able to provide this faith formation experience without cost to participants (approx. $175 value). There are three different age groupings for Sunday School: Ages 3 to Pre-K; Kindergarten to Grade 2; Grade 3 to Grade 5. We ask that parents register their children each year - even if they have been in Sunday School before. Registering helps with setting up classrooms and making sure we have enough materials on hand.
Sunday School operates weekly Sunday, 10:45 to 11:45am. Below is a bit about how the classes are arranged and what takes place in each area.

Teachers and helpers needed.
If you have ever thought about being a Sunday school teacher, we are always looking for facilitators to help in the classroom. Everything is prepared for you ahead of time so it is just a matter of being there for the kids to guide them through the story. It is really rewarding and most of the time, you walk away learning something new from the kids!

This group will learn the same Bible stories as the older students, but in a way that is geared towards their age level. In addition to beginner-level Bibles, we use picture books, floor puzzles, games, crafts and more to help these Pre-Schoolers better understand the important lessons. Parents are certainly welcome to be involved in the classroom with their children, but this is not required. We understand that some kids tend to be more independent when the parents are not there.
Kindergarten to 2nd grade and 3rd grade to 5th grade
Each week we gather for a snack, then have music time, followed by a Bible story and a craft. The week’s lesson will match the Revised Common Lectionary and what is being heard during worship as much as possible, so the children can expand upon what they heard during the service with the story and activities in Sunday School. During the year we will also play games, watch movies and have lots of fun while we learn.
High School Helpers
Students in Grades 9-12 are welcome and encouraged to serve as helpers or teachers in any of the Sunday School classrooms, for any length of time (for one Sunday, or for the whole year). Come revisit your favorite Bible story lessons, help make crafts, sing some of the favorite church songs you learned as a kid and get unlimited high fives! These youngsters really look up to the older kids and that connection is so important. If anyone is interested in helping in this way, please contact Patty Seewald.
