“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church.” – Matthew 16:18
The Peter Pebble program was started in 1976 as way to create an incentive for Sunday School children to memorize Bible verses, excerpts from the Lutheran Book of Worship, prayers, and portions of Luther’s Small Catechism.
Volunteers at St. James paint pictures on rocks and letter each with an appropriate Bible verse. When a student can successfully recite the grade-level memory work he or she can choose a Peter Pebble.
Students can begin earning Peter Pebbles on March 11 and have until May to earn one. This program is not a mandatory requirement, but we hope students will be encouraged to participate. Memory work was handed out during Sunday School and can be found here.
